Has anyone had any experience using 'Blue Whale' Synth Editor for the Atari made for the Yamaha Pss 680?

Where I'm staying  at the moment there's a Yamaha Pss680. Though after using the Digital Synthersizer settings I found it come up with some very versatile and array of sounds.

I later read online later than you could change even more settings than the front panel itself with use of a computer program which can read/handle MIDI or an Atari:- http://www.atarimusic.net/featured-arti … ies-editor

Has anyone had experience with using this?

Thanks.

Hello.

I started working on my very first game for A8.
Story will be about little ninja boy.
Name for project is Kiiro (Kiiro means Yellow in Japan).
Bacause He wears yellow suit...

Some early screenshoots:

There will be two versions of game:
For Atari 65XE / 800 XE / 800XL,130XE - all songs will be in mono and stereo (autodetect).
And for Windows PC with MOD music using Pokey samples and same graphics as on A8.
Game will be in charset graphics.
So it will have simmilar look/feeling to Gameboy or MSX1 games...
And I think there are only few games using such graphics mode.

But my second game will be in color graphics.

This software is strange, it's one of the most user-friendly when it concerns instruments creations, in comparison to other chiptune soundtrackers (like maxymizer), with every thing graphical. But on the other hand the tracking part is sometimes counter intuitive, with some buttons with no label. I still don't understand what are the "keys" boxes in the bottom right corner. It seems it's related to the instruments but what is the use of it?

I can't find a decent manual, the readme is only a changelog with only a few tips for how to use it.

Here are some notes I've made about it, if you want to give it a try:

For editing a track, type the "end" key on your keyboard, then you'll enter edit mode. The editable track will get a green vertical line across it.

You have 2 tracks for playing digi-sounds (samples). You can load and save sample with the "SAM" option on the top left box. When you have a sample, you can switch between synth-sounds (chiptune) and digi-sounds with the blue-green "s" or "d" button on the columns between tracks.
Synth-sounds will get C--1 D--1 ... D--2 notations, while Digi-sounds will get a sample icon with a number after it so you'll easily recognise them.

The magenta button on the far right (below "sound edit" button) is for muting notes while you're playing them (it's pretty useless in my opinion).

The three columns under the "sound edit" button are for sound level of each track. You can also mute tracks by clicking on them (they will get a magenta rectangle around them).

I don't know what the keys buttons under the sound level columns are for.

When in sound edit mode, you can get the SID option by right-clicking on the SID button.

You can create an instrument with a long sound waveform and a short noise at the beginning by selecting "sound", shaping the wave, then select the little "n" below and define a short length with the LEN box.

USB Floppy Disk Drivers?

Jazzmarazz says:

Hello Atari people heart

Trying to write maxYMiser on to some 720kb DD floppies. I bought myself a usb floppy disk driver, which I later learned didn't work for this use. Apparently most usb FDDs have weird limitations and can't do a lot of the imaging/formatting work that internal FDDs can (which I don't own).
Anyone know of a USB Floppy Disk Driver that can actually write .st images and use the fdrawcmd.sys driver? If not, what would you say is the best alternative?

I used the HDE External USB Floppy Disk Drive
Tried both Windows Vista, 7 and 8.
Also tried both blank 720kb DD and 1.44mb HD floppies.
I have an Atari 1040STE.

I very much appreciate any help at all

Atari Synthcart Woes

polke says:

Hey guys,

I recently picked up a pretty dusty Sears 2600 from a thrift store, and I've had some issues using Synthcart with it. When turned on in a postion with beatbox active, the cart starts with the beatbox started and the right controller is otherwise non-responsive. With the beatbox not active, the right controller does nothing. The left controller seems to work fully.

In the options menu, only the top row of buttons work on the right controller, and the left controller works except that the Arp pattern defaults back to mix if the button for another option isn't being held.

I'm wondering where the fault for this malfunction lies. Unfortunately, my troubleshooting capabilities are pretty slim; I only have this console and a copy of Crystal Castles that seems to work fine with the joystick controller. Do these issues sound like a problem with the console or the cart? I've already had to fix a switch, so it isn't an entirely perfect system.

My copy of Crystal Castles also seems to fit into the slot more snugly and with a noticeable click, whereas Synthcart mostly just rests in the slot without any kind of click.

Does anybody have any experience troubleshooting these kinds of problems? Any help would be really really appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: Have tried multiple controllers, and the pins on the jack looks fine at a glance

Greetings all,
It has been a while since I last posted here.

Intro:
I have played around with hardware drum machines, synths and samplers for about 10 years but when it comes to finally sequencing the song on a computer there has always been some technical issue that got in the way from completing most of my work. I would end up pulling my hair out and rarely got anything finished. It wasn't until recently that I finally worked out what most of my issues were with. MIDI timing and jitter!! I have been through 10 years worth of computers and MIDI interfaces, all of which have had some sort of timing issue, ultimately ruining the flow of my work. I have never been interested in soft synths so didnt go down that route. My best expeience with music is actually LSDJ! Compared to what ive used before; it is flawless and super tight!

Ive decided to take the plunge and buy an Atari ST after reading that it still has the best MIDI timing. 1ms! The lowest I have been able to achieve with a windows PC is around 10ms. And thats with a clean install of XP/7, MOTU interface, Renoise. It just sounds like a DISASTER!

I work deep sea so my internet is very very limited. Alot of sites I can not view so hence the reason for posting here.

My Requirements:
- Must have at least 1 MIDI out
- Be able to be modified to output to VGA, Scart or HDMI.
- Tight MIDI timing
- Good tracking software

Which ST would you recommend for me? I only really plan to use it as a MIDI sequencer but may use it later for some synth sounds. Im not sure yet.

What the main differences between the models? I don't necessarily  need the best one as I sometimes like working with constraints, but I would like to know the options. Im not really fussed about the cost but it would be nice to know the prices also.  Im in the UK.

I see an Atari STFM 1040 for sale in the UK. Is this a good option?

Doing modifications isn't a problem. Im an electrical engineer.

Any help would be much appreciated.

:-)

Playing SNDH channels individually?

xylo says:

I'm looking to rewrite SNDH tunes into other formats, usually my ears get the job done well enough but they can only get me so far.
So yes, is there a player out there that allows separate playback of each of a SNDH's channels - or YM at the very least?
